Drying & Dehumidification

After the water removal process, the walls and floor may still have moisture. Many materials that are porous, like drywall and insulation, may retain moisture that isn’t visible.

For this reason, it’s very important to use specialized industrial air movers and dehumidifiers. This equipment will allow the proper removal of moisture from the air, drywall, or floors. After the equipment is set up, our technicians will monitor the equipment daily as well as document the drying process until complete.

    Common water damage

Water and flood damage can occur in many ways. For instance, water pipes within your building’s infrastructure can burst, or leak, hoses connected to your washing machine or dishwasher can degrade over time. Small leaks, may form from an A/C system, hot water tank, or dishwasher or water line to the refrigerator. Abnormally high levels of humidity can result in water damage or mold growth.

Sometimes, flooding may occur quickly from burst pipes of fitting, roof leaks, or even slab leaks. Additionally, seasonal hurricanes, tropical storms, and other natural disasters are largely responsible for flooding throughout the Tri-County area.

    Main causes:

    • Roof
    • Plumbing
    • Human error
    • Sewer backup
    • Groundwater intrusion

    Consequences of water damage

Every minute counts. After the water has infiltrated in a structure, the damage from water increases exponentially over time.

    Within minutes:

Water spreads rapidly to other areas. Thereby rapidly increasing the scope and cost of the loss.
Damage to furniture, floors, ceiling and walls.

    Within hours:

Furniture delaminates or swells, legs begin to split.
Musty odor becomes apparent as the humidity rises.

    Within days:

Fungi appear, staining of walls and ceilings.
Drywall swells and becomes more fragile.
Uncoated metal surfaces begin to rust.
Door and window casings swell and distort or delaminate.
Joists, and studs begin to swell, warp and split.
    Electronic components may malfunction.
Occupants with respiratory problems or compromised immune systems could experience allergic reactions. Such as itchy eyes, congestion, or even difficulty breathing.

    Categories of water damage

While water may start as a category 1. Moreover, time and contact with organic material(s) it will transition to category 2. Then, eventually 3. So, It is more important to recognize what the loss becomes than what it originated as.

    • Category 1: Clean water

Originates from a source that does not pose substantial harm to humans. Additionally, does not flow through a contaminated area.

For examples: water supply lines, tub or sink overflow, broken toilet tanks.

    • Category 2: Gray water

Contains a significant level of contamination. Likewise, it has the potential to cause discomfort or sickness if consumed by or exposed to humans. For example, discharge from washing machine or dishwasher, overflows from a toilet with some urine, sump pump failures, broken aquarium, and punctured water bed.

    • Category 3: Blackwater

That is to say, contains pathogenic agents and is grossly unsanitary. For example: Sewage, toilet backflows, water that comes in from underground.
